12 Movies, Sound Installation (2002/2009)

Die Klanginstallation 12 Movies besteht aus zwölf unterschiedlich hohen Schiedsrichterstühlen, über die ein Hörstück rezipiert werden kann. Nimmt der Besucher auf einem der Stühle Platz, so erhält er eine erhabene Position mit Blick über den gesamten Ausstellungsraum und wird gleichzeitig Teil der Installation. In die Armlehnen der Stühle wurden speziell entwickelte Körperschalllautsprecher eingebaut. Stützt der Besucher seine Ellenbogen dort auf und legt die Handflächen an die Ohren, werden die Schallwellen über seine Knochen weitergeleitet und für ihn hörbar. 12 Movies beschäftigt sich mit dem Museum als Ort der Bilder und gleichzeitig mit dem Medium Film als dramaturgisches Konstrukt aus verschiedenen Elementen. Wahrnehmung und Vorstellung des Rezipienten stehen dabei im Mittelpunkt. Für die Arbeit wurden 12 Personen gebeten, einen Film ihrer Wahl in ihren eigenen Worten nachzuerzählen. Funktioniert Film üblicherweise als festgelegte und durchkomponierte Dramaturgie von Bild, Ton und Narration, so wird hier die subjektiv wahrgenommene und erinnerte Geschichte zum Soundtrack eines neu zu erlebenden Films im Ausstellungsraum. Der Rezipient wird hierbei selbst zum Produzenten eigener Bilder.


The audio installation 12 Movies consists of 12 referee chairs of different heights that let you listen to an audio piece. Taking place on one of the these high chairs in a lordly posture, lets the visitor overview the whole exhibition room and makes him part of the installation. There are special audio transducers built in the armrests of the chairs. If the visitor places his elbows in these arm placements and presses his hands against his ears, his bones will transmit the sound waves so that he can hear it. 12 Movies deals with the museum being the place of the images and with the medium film as a dramaturgical construct of various elements. The perception and  imagination of the recipient takes center stage. For this work 12 people were asked to retell a movie of their choice in their own words. If film usually works out as a fixed and well thought out composed dramaturgy of picture, sound and narration, here the subjective perceived and remembered story morphs into a soundtrack of a new enjoyable movie in the exhibition. The recipient turns into the producer of his own pictures.
